Survey Highlights

  • Cutting VAT and pensioners’ taxes rank joint-top in the public’s concerns for the next budget (38%). Cutting taxes for families with children U18 comes a close third at 35%

  • 7 in 8 respondents wish to see taxes cut in the Spring Budget

  • 60% of respondents agree the cost of living crisis has hit families hardest

  • 63% agree the UK tax system fails to take family costs into account

    • This figure rises to 72% of Labour voters and 72% of young people

  • By a ratio of almost two to one, voters agree the tax system should benefit married couples

  • 69% of the UK support tying child benefit to family income, rather than individual income

  • If the Chancellor unveiled a ‘Budget for Families’ in March:

    • 1 in 4 young people say they would be more likely to vote Conservative

    • 4 in 10 parents say they would be more likely to vote Conservative

    • By a ratio of 3 to 1, voters are more likely to support the Conservatives if they unveil a Budget for Families

  • 61% agree family breakdown is associated with educational failure, criminality and unemployment among children affected, the figure rising to 71% of young people

  • Mental health is labelled the greatest social problem facing society (62%), followed by serious debt (51%), addiction (49%), unemployment (44%), and welfare dependency (43%)
